To start, I wish to define what passion means to me. Passion is a state of emotion that encompasses a particular fondness for the quality, preciousness, or substance of an entity in question. Silent Hill is incontestably something I am very passionate about, now and forever.
In recent years, 2005 and forth, Silent Hill, as some fans came to assume a passion for, began surfacing fundamental changes. A transformation in the franchise caused great concern for the untold, indecisive future, but for me, my utmost apprehension was the loss of passion I had proudly withstood. Now looking back four full years, following many franchise product releases, and no lack of fan scrutiny, Silent Hill has altogether detached from its illustrious heritage. Fans' reception has lessened with not much exhilaration for the future, which introduces the matter whether this disconnect can be categorized as a passionate holding. As of late, I relooked what position qualifies a fondness so immense that it is to be considered a passionate state. I found that taking an affectionate stance against something detached from its original prominence only strengthens the passion I have always embraced for Silent Hill. Likewise, while my passion has not run dry, the entity in question has. In bluntness terms, today's "Silent Hill" is only Silent Hill by name, not by its legacy. Lacking the quality, preciousness, and substance, the Silent Hill here and now is not what I will retain a passion on behalf of.
I am sharing my own perception within this message and I do care to read what other fans alike consider in regards to the transformation of a franchise that we all, to some extent, are passionate for- Silent Hill.
I think, that fans of Silent Hill franchise should ask themselves a question like "What do I expect from a new Silent Hill?", and compare an answer, to the new ideas of US developers.
What do I expect from new Silent Hills? Just hours of tense splited by moments in which gamer can take a breath (if you remember the moment, when Harry was leaving Midwich Elementary School, then you should know what I'm talkin' about). What else? Storyline that will not conflict with the others - I really hate it in Silent Hill: Origins, and hope, that in Homecoming will not be any mistakes. Is that all? No, but I mention my main expectations and I can't imagine a good Silent Hill game without them.
Are Origins and Homecoming fulfilling my expectations? Origns - no, Homecoming - I don't know yet, but if it's gonna be like Origins, then it means, that US developers shouldn't even touch our precious Silent Hill, because they don't understand it's "message" apparently. Maybe it would be different if the developers would listen to what fans are sayin'...
