Wysłany: 22-11-2007, 21:02 Your Impressions On SH: Origins
As difficult as it is for me to admit this to myself and publicly, I must directly speak out, Silent Hill: Origins is by far the worst Silent Hill game in the series and not at all deserving the luxurious Silent Hill name. It is truly embarrassing how terrible this game really is. To begin, the platform the game was created for from the start was the single most stupid, imprudent decision. The sheer thought of a Silent Hill game on the PlayStation Portable device makes a mockery of our infamous survival-horror series. The next travesty facing this installment is an inferior United States game studio's perception of Silent Hill and the bona fide elements that define the series apart from any other game in existence. Climax fails on every measurable issue in judging this game's class or eminence for the standpoint of any genuine Silent Hill fan. Regrettably, the disaster called Silent Hill: Origins is forever part of the Silent Hill franchise. Yet there is hope that lessons learned will be decisions better made by Konami.
Hmm... I must disagree with you. While SH Origins cannot compete with previous titles (I mean SH 1-3, because 4 sucked ;p) it is not a bad game really.

Wrong, that is Silent Hill 4 you are talking about ;p

And what is wrong with the platform? Non-next-generation graphics? Small screen?
I own the PSP for about a month now and I must admit that the screen quality really surprised me. Everything is visible, the graphics in most of the games are really good and you can have fun almost everywhere. While playing Origins at night in my bed with headphones on I had the same gameplay experience I had while playing previous titles on TV/Monitor screen.
About your ctiticism, I would really like to know exactly what you disliked about Origins. While the game has its issues, it also returns to a traditional gameplay system after the "I-suck-badly-Silent-Hill-4". The only difference is the combat system - weapon limit to be more precise. And the rest?
The graphics are good, comparable with SH2 in my opinion. Of course the screen is smaller so are the textures but nevertheless I was impressed with details and the flashlight effects.
The music and sound effects - brilliant as always. We have both calm and nice piano and vocal music comparable to SH2 and psychedelic metalic sounds like in SH1. Can you ask for more?
Locations design - very good, especially the Theatre. Only the Motel sucked badly... and I mean really badly... The only thing I missed is the alternate world seen in SH1 & SH3. In Origins it is simillar to SH2 (i.e. there is not much of a difference between normal and alternative ;p).
Pretty good riddles, maybe not as good as SH1/SH2 but better than SH3 (not to mention SH4...). Of course they were pretty easy but interesting nevertheless.
The fable was good, but nothing comparable to previous titles. It was nice to see familiar faces, know a little more about Alessa and get some new theories to think about (the butcher). But what annoyed me is the voice acting. No emotions, crappy voice... WTF? And what's with the characters? Lisa is like a different person to say the least...
Yes, there were some issues in the game. Some of them were minor like barely visible items (not highlighted as in previous installments), camera angles, the voice acting or limited weapons. What really annoyed me is the difficulty level. Most of the monsters can be easily defeated with fists while the rest simply avoided. This way we have a lot of ammunition to defeat the bosses. But what the hell is with the number of monsters in the town? It's not even worth killing them - they'll respawn anyway.
Another thing - some monsters design. What the hell is with those puppets? Couldn't they come up with something better for the theatre? If not for them it would be one of the top best locations in the whole SH series. While nurses and those guys from SH2 are pretty good, the rest is just like a walking piece of meat.
And the last thing - what the heck did Konami thought about while they were making the Motel? It is one of the most annoying and monotonous locations in the whole series. It can be easily compared with SH4. While the previous places were really good, this one simply drove me crazy, especially when the butcher killed me because of a single QTE mistake (and there were only two save points in the whole map!) WTF?!
But to sum up, SH Origins is a really good game - both as a PSP title and a SH installment. While it may not compete with 1-3 I had a good time playing it. The only sad thing about it is it did not scare me as many times as SH1 & SH3. But maybe thats because I'm getting old ;p
For me, Origins deserves 7+/10. A good game, return to the roots of the series, without silly experiments like SH4. Personally I recommend it to any SH fan.
PS. Sorry for any grammar and spelling mistakes. Though I study English I still have some problems.
PS2. do something about those smileys for god's sake (not that I'm a believer... ;p)

Well, although I haven't played the full game yet, I must agree with Suavek. The leaked demo really Impressed me, thus I believe the full game is even better. While I was playing it, it felt like playing a full-fledged Silent Hill installment not a crappy rip-off. For me the game surely lived up to the hype and I'm looking forward to grab the full version

Silent Hill 4: The Room was far from a mistake, but fans whom declare such a statement must realize who was the lead person behind this Silent Hill installment. Any faults of SH4: The Room must go solely to Akira Yamaoka, as he was the principal creator of the game with immense creative control. Granted he was a magnificent sound director/composer of the entire Silent Hill franchise, anyone having problems with "The Room" should (re)consider if he is fit for such a decisive position. Personally, I believe he is incapable of "leading" the Silent Hill series and most diehard Silent Hill fans would agree Hiroyuki Owaku is the heart and sole of Silent Hill. Notably, Hiroyuki Owaku had zilch to with Silent Hill 4, or Silent Hill: Origins for that matter. Akira Yamaoka had more authority over these two installments above any other developer or producer.
Everyone has got their own taste, but generaly fans are divided on those who likes SH3 or those who likes SH4. Personaly I like SH4 very much and I don't really care about what Suavek says about this installment, because it has a very good plot and that's what matters for me. SH3 has nice graphics and gameplay...and so what? The plot in this installment really bored me and I think that this is the worse part of Silent Hill franchise (I'm not saying that this game is bad, but for me it's worse than the others).
That was an offtopic, but I can't say anything about Silent Hill Origins until they release this game on PS2.

Exacly... Akira is very good in music... and that what he should only do in creating a game... also Takayoshi Sato and Masahiro Ito are the people which are "missing"...
